A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a support plan completed by a GP to help people access mental health treatment through Medicare. It can make psychological support more affordable and provide a clearer pathway for care.
Many people seek support for concerns such as anxiety, stress, depression, burnout, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, adjustment challenges, or simply feeling “not like themselves.”
A Mental Health Care Plan is created by your GP after discussing your mental health, current concerns, symptoms, and support needs. If appropriate, your GP may refer you to a psychologist or other mental health professional for ongoing support.
With a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral, eligible clients can access Medicare rebates for psychological therapy sessions.
